Arizona Partnership for a New Economy
APNE Research WestTrack Report: October, 2000

Summary of Findings:

  1. Awareness and Perception of the New Economy
  2. Samples of Verbatim Comments by Topic
  3. Ranking of Arizona for its Application of the New Economy

Background and Demographics

The Arizona Partnership for the New Economy in partnership with WestGroup Research is conducting a tracking study that monitors Valley residents’ knowledge and perceptions of the New Economy. The current study represents the first wave of research and will serve as the baseline study for the project.

Data for the APNE study were gathered using the WestTrack Market Monitor, Phoenix’s longest running omnibus study. Managed by WestGroup Research, WestTrack is a multi-topic study that surveys approximately 400 Phoenix or Arizona residents each month. The APNE questions were included in the State wide area version of WestTrack in September 2000. The margin of error for the survey is approximately +/- 5% at a 95% confidence level.

The following report analyzes the cross-tabulated responses of the Arizona residents surveyed. Differences in responses from demographic variables are discussed where appropriate. Cross tabulations of the data are available in some copies of the report.

Demographic Characteristics

Table 1 summarizes the demographic characteristics of the residents interviewed as part of this survey. Some interesting statistics about the sample include the following:

  • Males and females are equally represented (both at 50%).

  • Respondents are most likely to have household incomes between $25,000 and $55,000 (32%).

  • Most have white-collar occupations (44%).

  • A majority of respondents are over the age of 30 (83%)
