Ranking of Arizona for its Application of The New Economy

Definition of “The New Economy”

I will read you a very brief definition of the New Economy and then get your reaction to it. The New Economy is about how we do things. It is using new technologies to increase productivity and growth within the state. This includes all areas of life such as education, government, new business development, and overall connectivity to the Internet by all communities throughout the state. Compared to other states, do you think Arizona is in the top ten states for applying the New Economy, the 25 states, the bottom 25 states, or the bottom 10 states?

After hearing a definition of the New Economy, nearly one half (47%) of residents perceive Arizona as being in the top 25 states for applying the New Economy (16% rated top 10 + 31% rated top 25). While one-third (32%) rank Arizona as being in the bottom 25 states (21% rated bottom 25 + 11%rated bottom 10), more than one in five residents (22%) did not hold an opinion about Arizona’s ranking.

Phoenix residents are significantly more likely than those living in Tucson or outlying areas to rate Arizona among the top 25 states ) for its application of the New Economy. (57% vs. 29% and 33%, respectively).

Non-Phoenix residents were significantly more likely to rate Arizona among the bottom 25 states (49% Tucson and 45% Outlying vs. 22% Phoenix).

Younger residents are more likely to rank Arizona among the top 25 states (62% of those <30 vs. 49% of those 30 to 49 vs. 38% of those 50 and older). (See Table 4a for details.)
