Arpaio leads poll
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio leads a recent WestGroup Research poll of potential gubernatorial candidates. Of 615 metro Phoenix area residents questioned, 37 gave Arpaio a rating of 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 5. Thirty-two percent gave Attorney General Janet Napolitano a similar rating, and 18 percent did so for former Rep. Matt Salmon.
The only other politicians in the poll, Phoenix Mayor Skip Rimsza and former Attorney General Grant Woods, do not plan to run for governor. Several other gubernatorial candidates were not included. The poll, conducted between Feb. 14 and 18, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
