Arizonans love their Diamondbacks and college sports
PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks are Arizona’s favorite team – with one out of every three Arizona adults (34%) claiming to be a DBack fan. That is the finding of a September survey of 405 adult residents of Arizona by WestGroup Research of Phoenix. The telephone study is representative of all Arizona adults within plus or minus 5% at 95% confidence.
Perhaps surprisingly, the Arizona Cardinals (11%) edged out the Phoenix Suns (10%) in number of fans. (Perhaps a study during basketball/football season will produce different results.)
As might be expected, there are significant differences by area of Arizona. Tucson fans are most interested in U of A sports: basketball (39%) and football (24%). Phoenix area fans are mostly for Dbacks (42%), ASU football (25%), the Phoenix Suns (13%), and the Arizona Cardinals (11%).
